St. Cloud State has more than 200 undergraduate major, minor and pre-professional programs and more than 60 graduate programs, including two doctoral programs.

The University has offered master's degrees since 1953 and doctoral degrees since 2007.

It is located an hour northwest of Minneapolis, along the oak-crowned west bank of the Mississippi River. The 100-acre campus is between downtown St. Cloud and the Beaver Islands, a group of more than 30 islands that form a natural maze for a two-mile stretch of the river.

The St. Cloud metropolitan area is 24th on Forbes magazine's 2014 “Best Small Places for Businesses and Careers." It also is one of the top 10 hockey towns in the country.

St. Cloud State is ranked in Forbes magazine's "America's Top Colleges" and Money magazine's "Money's Best Colleges."

Minnesota State has collaborated with consulting firms to document St. Cloud State's regional economic impact:

2018
Annual contribution to the economy is $686.5 million and the University supports and sustains 5,515 jobs. Annual community contributions by St. Cloud State employees, through charitable giving and volunteerism, are valued at $45.8 million. 

Commissioned by Minnesota State and conducted by Pennsylvania-based consulting firm Parker Philips, the study said St. Cloud State annually generates about $38.5 million in tax revenues for state and local government. That total includes sales, property, personal-income and corporate-income taxes.

For every $1 in state appropriation, the Minnesota State system generates nearly $12 in economic activity, according to the study. View a news story.

Annual regional economic impact was $519 million and 6,579 jobs. The study suggests that for every $100 produced in the region, $4 are directly or indirectly related to St. Cloud State. The study also concluded that St. Cloud State generates about $29 million in tax revenues for state and local government. View a news story.

Enrollment 2016

St. Cloud State’s fall 2016 enrollment set all-time highs for the number of international students and students of color enrolled. The university also experienced an increase in graduate students.

The fall 2016 enrollment headcount is 15,092. Throughout the year, St. Cloud State serves more than 19,000 students.

Founded in 1869

St. Cloud State began in 1869 as the state's third normal school. Teachers and students first met in a converted hotel on a bluff above the Beaver Islands. Of the 53 original students, 43 were women.

Huskies Athletics

Fact


Huskies Athletics is home to NCAA Division I and II teams with rich traditions of success. Our student-athletes, coaches and facilities have helped the Huskies rank among the best NCAA programs in the region.

Women's and men's hockey compete at the NCAA Division I level. Men are in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference. Women are in the Western Collegiate Hockey Conference. The teams skate in the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

Nineteen teams compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, arguably the nation's best NCAA Division II conference.

St. Cloud State also offers campus-based intramural sports and intercollegiate competition in club sports, such as rugby, crew, lacrosse and cycling.

Military Friendly Schools list, Victory Media

St. Cloud State is again among the nation’s top schools that deliver the best college experience for student veterans, landing on Victory Media’s Military Friendly Schools list for 2019.

The Military Friendly Schools designation is awarded to the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students and to dedicate resources to ensure their success in the classroom and after graduation.

The University stands apart from others on the list as one of the Top 25 Public Universities and Colleges as well as having one of the Top Online Programs.

St. Cloud State has earned the military-friendly designation each year since from 2009-2016 and again in 2019.

Robbyn Wacker, President

President Robbyn Wacker was elected to lead St. Cloud State University by the Minnesota State Board of Trustees in May 2017.

Wacker is the 24th president of St. Cloud State.

She succeeded Interim President Ashish Vaidya July 1, 2018.

St. Cloud State at Plymouth helps working professionals in the Twin Cities area establish and enhance careers.

Courses and programming in the current Twin Cities Graduate Center in Maple Grove will move to Plymouth for spring semester 2017.
